Payback child

I was not a good kid! I can fully admit it now. I drove my mom crazy, and the older I got the worse it got. She always told me "I hope someday you have a daughter just like you!". I think it may have actually happened.

My youngest daughter, Kelsey, is eight years old (turns nine in September). Man I love that girl! She is my best friend but she has a way of bringing out the worst in me. She can be so sweet and lovable, then turn into a little monster who is whiny and mouthy. She knows how to get her way too. Not that I give in all the time, but I'll admit that I do on occassion.

We got her new dressers yesterday so today we folded all her clothes and begin to put them away. I got her all organized and folded and went to go make dinner. I asked her if she could put away the three piles of clothes that were left. Five minutes later she walks into the kitchen.

ME: "Did you get those clothes put away?"

KELSEY: "You want me to do it?? All by myself?"

ME: "Kelsey, its only a pile of pants, a pile of shirts, and some undies. I think you can handle it. Besides, I'm getting dinner ready"

KELSEY: "FINE! I guess so, but I don't know why you can't do it!"

She stomped away and finished the task.

She hadn't had anyone to play with all day so when she heard the neighbor girl outside she wanted to go and play. It was 8:30PM and would be getting dark soon. This is our conversation.

KELSEY: "She's home mom! Can I go play?"

ME: "Well, it's getting kinda late Kels...maybe you should wait till tomorrow"

KELSEY: "But I haven't played with anyone all day! I'm boorreed! PLEASE MOM!"

At this point the lip is quivering and the tears are welling

ME: "Kelsey, are you going to cry"

KELSEY: "Please mom! I have been bored all day! Please let me go"

At this point she was crying and I was laughing because she just gets the most pathetic look on her face. I grabbed my camera and took a picture of it.




As soon as I snapped the picture I said "okay I'll walk you across the street so you can play for a few minutes."
Her response was to instantly stop crying and exclaim to me "I knew that would work!"

OH! You just gotta love her. Even if she is a little stinker!
